Most of you have noticed the ShoutBoxer app in the left column in Forums. We played with options and where to place it and have settled on the location you see. It is not the rumoured Chat application that is coming soon, that will be more feature rich. The ShoutBoxer is suited for messages you'd like to "Shout" for all to see, messages that are timely and might not have any value tomorrow or in the future sitting in a forum post.
It is also handy for quick little chats with members that are online with you. Currently it is set so that only registered and logged in users can see and post. Anonymous users don't see the shouts. But all logged in users can.
The Shouts will update anytime you view a new page, popup a Shout window, or let it update automatically, or click the refresh. I hope it is handy with no side effects such as slowing down the main activity.
