View Full Version : SPDA VIP Night at Delaware (London Ontario) - You're Invited

Hi All,

July 10th is the VIP night at the Oval for SPDA, sponsored by Fenwick Subaru. All attendees will receive free entry and free food for the evening.

Unlike Barrie Speedway, Delaware is a large over with 2 distinct straights, meaning, cars with HP will easilly have an advantage on this track, and the straights are long!!

Fenwick is putting on the black tie to support SPDA in it's activites. SPDA is looking for people to attend this special night. You'll be treated to "Preferred Parking", Hosted by Fenwick Subaru in the VIP Airconditioned lounge overlooking the oval, and all the food you can stuff into your belly.

This is a family affair so bring the family and enjoy the show.

In addition, SPDA is looking for volunteers to run at the King of the Hill. Prize purse is $1000.00 but there's a catch. We want to give the Delaware spectators a show so there will be something special for the people running the KOTH.

So far - Running at the King of the Hill
JoeT - Legacy
Steve D - STI
Ivano D - WRX
Jennifer - WRX, KOTH + VIP
Caveman - VIP Only (needs trailer)
Mike W VIP + possibly KOTH stock miata (Very slow)
Maurizio - VIP + Show
Jason V + 2 others for VIP + Show
Tashko - (Confirmation Required)
Melanie - Show + VIP (Mel and Adrian)
Quentin - ???

Please post here if you either want to enjoy the VIP or do both the KOTH and VIP.

We also need show cars to park in the show area.

Please post:

Name - VIP + KOTH
or
Name - VIP Only
or
Name - VIP + Show

Thank you

What is the time for this event?

JoeT
07-03-2009, 09:22 AM
The event starts around 7:00 Ish, PM. But we have the run of the track prior to that, if we want to play.

JoeT

Hi All,

I'm getting confirmation as to what time we can be there to have some lapping time. This will provide us guys (new to the track) some time to get acquainted with the nuances of the HUGE oval prior to competition.

So even if you're coming for the show portion, you're welcome to come out and have some lapping fun at the oval.

that looked quick...

What time do you think we will be meeting/leaving to head to the track.

JoeT
07-07-2009, 09:03 AM
I'm just waiting for confirmation, because depending on their reply, we may have free reign on the track to do some lapping. If not, it's no use getting there early.

I should be able to let everyone know this evening.

Hey Joe.
It is going to be a great event. Nice to see SPDA support.
Hope the weather holds. No fun in the rain with the old 83 Mustang.
If you get permission for a pre-show lapping section, would love to join in.

JoeT
07-08-2009, 09:53 AM
Hi Guys,

A little update. We will not be able to do any lapping on Friday, so that idea is out.

All cars should plan on being at Delaware at 5:15 PM so we can park at the inner gates for display.

Meeting Spot will be at:

Mississauga Rd & 401 North East corner, Tim Hortons

Departure time will be 3:15 pm, that should be enough time.

See Y'all there.

What's the tire change protocol, Joe? Drive on the tires we show up with?

1sti2nv
07-08-2009, 04:29 PM
anyone got CAA just in case someone hits something

JoeT
07-08-2009, 04:42 PM
Hi Steve,

Its arrive and drive, that way we don't discourage the locals. BTW, the locals run V710's and Hoosiers on that track, so I suggest bringing your intended tiresa with you and changing them when we get close to the track.

John,

Ya there will be people with CAA Plus, but I don't think anyone will be hitting anything.

See y'all soon

1sti2nv
07-08-2009, 04:44 PM
so we could pretty much run any tire

idk if the star spec will hold out to your r1

hmm

JoeT

I'm not using RA-1's actually. I may not even have a car there depending on how things go, but my fingers are crossed. For this event, it does not matter which Subaru wins, as long as a subaru wins. My car is not the one to beat, actually, there's a certain STI which has lighter weight, stickier tires and more power than mine coming out to play.

Come out and play and I'll explain the game plan.. LOL, yup there will be tean orders, but it will benefit all.

1sti2nv

3:15?? But I work until 4! Hahahaha, looks like I'm not going to make it out for this one. I thought when you said 5:15, it meant leave GTA at 5:15.

kfarquhar
07-08-2009, 10:06 PM
You can run any tire that has a DOT number on it.
They WILL check the winning cars tires before they consider it a win and pay out the money.

kfarquhar
07-08-2009, 10:16 PM
5:15 would still be okay to come to the event.
You should arraive around 7;30.
7 to 8 is practise for the racing classes
8pm is race starting time.
KOTH is at the end of the program normally.

Up date on the tow for Robs car. He bought a 91 F350. Now we just have to get a hold of the guy with the trailer and put them all on the road and we will be set for Sep.
1sti2nv I thought you were not going to make it?? I guess you got tires? Have you run at Delaware before because you'll love it. We will see ya there.

Hey Joe, had a fantastic time last night at the track. The event put on by Fenwick Subaru was awesome. Very glad I went. The wife and kid had a blast. running in the KOTH was a real rush even though I only got one run in and then had either a pilot bearing go or my throwout bearing took a dump. Hopefully thats all it is thats wrong with it. I wish I could have continued on but figured I better stop before I couldnt drive it home.

Its amazing how just one lap around the track at full tilt brought me right back to 20 years ago when I drove stock car back at Flamboro speedway although this time in a much quicker car today. It was fun and scary at the same time. I think the car I ran back then was maybe 250hp at the wheels in a big sled of a pontiac.

Congrats to 1sti2nv for doing an amazing driving job all night to take it home for team subaru and to make us all proud. Great Job man!! Driving around a feild of 34 cars was no small feat.

Over all it was a great showing by all the subarus at the event as they were beating up on some serious powered local cars all night.

It was great meeting alot of you guys and girls last night as well, what a great bunch of people they all are. See you at the next event.

Jason

It was quite amazing how many were eliminated during the first rounds, with 34 cars in the field, it quickly got thinned down. All the Subaru's did extremely well, and the crowd was actually surprised when JasV's car didn't move off the line.

John's car with that 18G was working really well inspite of the BOV tube slipping off all the time. From the announcer booth, it was pretty entertaining talking about all you guys. For the most part, the gaps between the Subaru's and the others were quite significant. But for a few it was pretty tight.

Riian in the cobalt in an exhibition of poor judgement, the Lexus trying to do a drift and broadsiding the pit entrance, the Viper late braking and almost throwing it all away 2 times, the "Grocerygetter aka Station Wagon" the local favourite getting beaten on the first round.

All in all, the hospitality exibited by Fenwick was amazing. The VIP area was an excellent viewing vantage point in the center of all activity, food, drink, a HUGE thanks goes out to Fenwick for a great time.

I hope that the Subaru's winning along with translates into Subaru sales for him.

Thanks to everyone that participated for making this evening a success, it was great to see all the fast cars out, playing at the King of the Hill at Delaware. The next event at Delaware is in September, but we'll see if we can have a club track day at Delaware sometime in hopes to attract more people to this type of event.

Thanks again all for coming out and having fun!!!

Thanks Fenwick for hosting the event!!

What A fantastic night. I personally enjoyed the drive there since I did not compete. Fenwick was a spectacular host, and got to share lots of laughs all night long.

The one thing that I like the most when spectating is hearing all the locals smack talk the "imports" (Subaru's), until Jason and John did a full acceleration pull in the warm up lap. That quickly shut them up. Then the 4 wheel spinning, jumping off the line like a cheetah, quickly drew the Subaru's to be greatly favored by the locals. This is why I like to come out.

Once again it was a great night, with great people, great entertainment, and hosted by a fantastic dealer. Tilll the next KOTH.

Cheers

Earl and I send our thanks to Fenwick Subaru as well. That was a nice treat! And Earl says that amenities at the tracks sure have changed since he raced... ;-)

It kills me to lose to a Viper by that small a margin, but at least the crowd enjoyed it, and I can remind myself what Rob keeps saying...

... it's better to drive home thinking "I could have gone faster..." than ride home in the cab of the flatbed thinking "my wife is going to kill me."

PS I didn't get it on tape but I put Ricky Bobby around at Barrie between 3 and 4.

Hey guys, that was one awesome night. I wish I made it past round two but at least losing to a car that made it to the finals is consolation! Thanks for Fenwick Subaru for the hospitality, it was much appreciated!

Riaan, Jon, I'm sure no harm was meant, just a racing incident. Hopefully it's all good for you guys.

Thanks to Fenwick for having us. I'm going to have to beat that darn Mustang next time!!! <shakes fist>

"The sparks from the back of your car... was that from the panhard rod scraping the ground?"

No, that was from the battery on the metal floor as the battery box broke lose on the launch. That won't be happening again!!
