The water pump on my '97 Legacy is leaking at high RPM, so I searched Ebay for a COMPLETE kit. Timing belt, water pump, hydraulic tensioner, cam and cog pulleys, accessory belts, oil seals, thermostat, etc. None were advertised.

But one shop had a kit that was near complete and I called them up. Caroline was VERY knowledgeable about the different Subaru engines and year variants. She was great to deal with. She put together a COMPLETE package that even includes a longer bolt for the cog pulley which sometimes needs to be changed depending on the individual car of that year. I had no idea about that.

Timing Belt Kit Subaru Legacy 1995-1998

Includes:

timing belt
automatic tension adjuster
water pump with gasket
both accessory drive belts
thermostat
thermostat gasket
front crankshaft seal
two camshaft seals with "O" rings
two cam pulleys
cog pulley
alternate cog pulley bolt

The water pump is Paraut. The automatic tension adjuster is (OEM) Subaru. The timing belt is Contitech or Bando. The drive belts are Bando. This kit will service Subaru Legacy's with 2.2L engine's with a year range of 1995-1998.

$318 USD shipped USPS, which should work out to about $430 CAD all taxes, exchange and duty in at my door.

Closest Goodyear kit that I tried to source locally was a Goodyear kit at $500 CAD. And they weren't sure which pulley wasn't included. "Maybe the tensioner. Not sure." That helps.

I wonder how much of the kit cost are the cam and cog pulleys? I've never heard of replacing those for regular wear reasons.

About $44 USD for the two cam and cog pulleys with bolt. Paul Henshall says on the 2.2 he usually finds a lot of play on the cogged one.

Usually you check those for play and replace as needed but I don't need extra downtime.

I'm in there once, so for $45 extra in parts, I'm gittin 'er done. Then I know the 240,000km engine will outlast the body. :-) I have no maintenance record for if the timing belt was actually done at 168,000km and it's bloody apparent now that the water pump probably wasn't.

I know what Subaru charges for pulleys and tensioners up here, and it ain't cheap!!!

Their normal kit is $254 USD shipped in the USA. I'm paying $298 + $20 for shipping to Canada.
