I just noticed that Toyo makes a 245/35/17 R1R. Does anyone had experience with this size? I was planning on running a 235/40/17 tire on my 17x8 wheels when this struck me.

For comparison, my stock size tire is 24.07". The 235/40 (which works ok on the car) is 24.4". The 245/35 is 23.8"!

Toyo specs a 9.7" width and it being "okay" for an 8" wheel (just barely).

I've managed to just, just barely make a 9.6" wide, 24.5" tall Hoosier Koni Challenge tire work on my car. This would be a much shorter tire and my Honda does give me camber in compression.

Anyway, just musing...maybe it's a bad idea.

how stiff are your springs?

a really low sidewall is good when your suspension geometry and spring/damper setup keep the tire flat at all times

if your car rolls a decent amount you will be throwing away grip during hard cornering because the tire will be tipping on itself fighting the roll of the car.

If I take MR^2 * spring rate = wheel rate I'm looking at

0.64^2 * 650 = 266
0.76^2 * 450 = 260

With a stock front ARB and a solid 25mm rear ARB

Lloyd,

Believe it or not, that's still pretty soft, but on the good side, the Prelude has a really nice camber curve that the short sidewall will probably work.

I buy that it's still soft, actually.

Maybe next season 650s in the back, even more in the front, and most importantly buying some shocks that will take it :P

I can dream, anyway.

the best way to tell would be to hook up a camera and see how the tire behaves during cornering.. :D

I do want to pull a V8 supercar and put the gopro under the car. Alas, all I've managed to do is this.

And the gopro really isn't good enough to capture the finer details of what the tire is doing anyway...

At any rate, all this would happen after I've bought the tires. I guess I should try and make sure they'd pass the "tires fit under the car" test as well.
