Hey SPDA,

Purchased a set of Kirkey racing seats for the BMW project (with covers)

As my father and I both plan to drive the car, we require the seat to be movable forward and back. We were going to devise a system in which the seat is hard mounted with a release for adjustment.

Question - the stock BMW seats have a very strong manual rail system. Will we run into scrutiny issues if we cannibalize the rail and lock system from the BMW seats for use with the new Kirkey seats?

Jonas, The Kirkey seat you have in the pic is an economy seat. It is not suitable for being moveable. It needs a great deal of external support.

Great deal of external support - so it will need to be fastened to the roll cage as well as the floor.

That does complicate things - maybe movable pedals and wheel.

EDIT - just looked at the install instructions from the kirkey site,

We recommend the following
1) that the seat be mounted to the roll cage or structural member of the frame
2) That you bolt the seat in six (6) places
a. Four(4) on the seat bottom
b. Two (2) just below the shoulder belt holes as wide as possible

I think we will address the seat issue with our roll cage installer (probably CAN-ALIGN) for guidance here.

Just needed to know if anyone else had experience with adjustable racing seats.

Hey Jonas,

Can-align = Racecartech.. LOL

Yes, you can mount a racecar seat onto adjustable rails, but you'll need the correct seat that's applicable.

Here are a couple of examples:

Notice how beefy the construction is, these seats are meant to be mounted by the bottom only, and don't need the to be fastened to the roll bar in the back.

Hope this helps.

Jonas,

You can use the Kirk on the passenger side. If you get something like Joe suggested for the drivers seat you will be way better off. I have rails are on my sparco that slide and although not idea works very well. If you decide to go with floor mount peddals let me know I have a set here.

awesome - thanks for the advice guys!

I'll be contacting Can- Align (RACECARTECH :-)) soon for the roll cage - and see where to go from there.

This past weekend we set up the modified front ventilation system, switch/fuse board as well as gauge cluster - so things are moving along.
