Spent some time in the garage today - not too cold once you get moving.

The engine sits and waits

Time to get some paint on those welds.

Car is coming along nicely

Ahem, there's something wrong with that powerplant. It certainly doesn't look like a formidable in-line six with twin-cams..?

Nope - it looks like a torque monster. :-)

Don't get me wrong - I love BMW power (use it in my daily driver) - but this project was meant to be a little nuts from the beginning. (302 with much better cam than stock)

This engine is really to get things started, it's quite old. If/when it blows up or sputters out - the plan is to look for something much more crazy.

PS - the stock lump in this car was VERY heavy - the 302 with tremec T5 in this car will be 50lbs lighter than the stock inline 6. Hard to believe, but true. Also, this motor will pull from 1000rpm strong.....I drove the old drivetrain...power at 1000rpm? not so much.

Sorry - missed your first post bump.
Sourced a whole bunch of parts over the winter (don't have a nice heated garage like some fortunate souls)

Engine mounts, lights, new rear view mirrors
Sport spring kit - lowering the front and rear 2 inches
Beefy sway bar kit
Adjustable rear camber arms
Front camber strut kit
poly bushings and subframe mounts (subframe OEM mounts for E36 are notoriously bad)
Also sourced new (gently used) M3 front fenders - we used the old ones to mock up the flare and see what kind of room we need - also to work on our welding skills. The old fenders were all rotted out in the bottom.

Found a place to get a custom drive shaft done as well.

The plan is to have the car out of storage next month early and *FINGERS CROSSED* rolling by July.

Lots of wrench time still to go.

More pics when we start up work again.

Jealous.

But shouldn't the brake bias valve be in the cockpit, near the driver?

It could be moved - we thought it would be more 'set it and forget it' -->would you ever change it mid race?

we're new to this, so everything is kind of trial and error :-P

When tires and brakes are cold, front bias gets reduces to compensate for the reduced grip. Once the tires heat up and get more grip, bias is shifted or added to the front to take advantage of the extra grip without locking up the rear. That's the theory anyway, it'll happen in time attack, but Autoslalom you set it and deal with it.. LOL
