Need. More. Snow.

(Need. More. Time. Yes, for those wondering, the rally is still happening.)

The Maple Leaf Winter Rally (MLWR) is just two weeks away, February 16-17. We've done some exploring and found some more interesting roads, which will extend the route beyond the areas that have been used the last number of years.

Registration opens at 8 pm at the Bancroft Fish and Game Club, and the first car is out at 10:01 pm, returning at about 6:15 am (unless they're stuck in a snowbank somewhere). The F&G crew will provide a great breakfast while the scores are tallied.
There will be more emphasis on driving than navigating this year. Navigators may want to read up on how to avoid motion sickness. Drivers may want to attend MCO's Sno-Cross or check out the MCO winter driving school. Total distance is ~365 km. with two gas and rest breaks at less than 150 kms. distance each.

Supplemental regulations are posted here.

It's a good idea to go over these in detail. Note: the link in the supps to the registration page is not currently working; I'm working to update the MLWR web page and the registration page, and I'll post again as soon as they're up and running.

Good winter tires and safety triangles are mandatory; these will be checked at registration (no, you don't have to bring the tires to the registration desk) and could also be checked on route. Not having either will result in exclusion from the event.

For more info, or to let me know that you'll be competing, email mlwr@mlrc.ca

We also need more Checkpoint crews; gas money and breakfast included. Email as above.

Stay on the road, stay on course, stay on time,

Bruce Leonard

The Maple Leaf Winter Rally is always an outstanding event. If you're looking for a spectacular driving experience in an average car, this is one of the premier events to attend. Don't worry about the late start. The excitement will keep you on your toes all night.

Who's taking part this year from SPDA?

Opal and I are pre-registered. Andrew L is looking for a navigator right now. Trevor is making sure that he makes it to at least three checkpoints without puke on the side of the car.

No major changes for us this year. Same tires, same lights, same suspension, though I might disconnect the front bar... Dunno if we're going to run the ODO off the transmission signal or the axle signal. Neither are particularly accurate. :oldSmokey:

Is your new navigator in training up for this one, Tim?

I'll be running checkpoints for the evening. It'll be nice to see everyone again at the start/finish, and some of you during the rally. ;)

Sadly, I think this might be a bit of a stretch for a first event, but I'm hoping to be on checkpoint duty (not in the TR ;-)

Tim, Bruce is still looking for a few volunteers if you can make it. I've got CP duty as well for the evening.

Bruce and I did a green crew run of the roads yesterday and the route has some spectacular roads. Challenging roads, lined with fluffy snow banks, just as the MLWR should be. Hopefully the conditions will last until the event.

The 2013 edition of the Maple Leaf Winter Rally is almost here, promising new roads, new challenges, less navigating, and more real driving!

What could be finer than driving 360 km in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere, Ontario, in the dead of winter? Are you up to the challenge? Join us for our annual foray into the forests of Bancroft. No polar bears around this year, but there are lots of wild turkeys around.
Registration Opens 8:00 p.m. Saturday Feb 16, Bancroft Fish and Game Club

Start - 10:00 p.m. Saturday Feb 16
Finish - 6:15 to 7:00 a.m. Sunday Feb 17, Bancroft Fish and Game Club

Entry fee of $90 includes a full breakfast in the morning.

We've got all the cp crews covered now. More competitors welcome. This will not be a rally with difficult instructions. The hardest part might be putting the columnar (tabular) type instruction together so that you don't miss any of the cautions or double cautions as they come up.

There's an update on the odo check on the MLRC forum page.
