General Motors will offer its most powerful V6 ever in the 2014 Cadillac CTS mid-size luxury sedan.
The 3.6-litre VVT DI Twin Turbo with 8-speed automatic transmission produces 420 horsepower and 430
pound-feet of torque and allows the CTS to get 17 miles per gallon in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
Acceleration from zero to 60 miles per hour takes 4.6 seconds, and top speed is 170 mph.
The engine features a number of upgrades from the 321-hp naturally-aspirated 3.6L, including high-tumble cylinder
heads that enhance the motion of the air charge for more complete combustion. GM says the Twin Turbo’s
output of 118 hp/litre is the highest in the mid-size luxury segment, exceeding the BMW 535i turbocharged
3.0L six’s 100 hp/litre and the BMW 550i TwinPower 4.4L V8’s 91 hp/litre (Green Car Congress).
