The Family-Friendly, Multi-Route Nav Rally
July 27, 2014

The original Monte-Carlo rally was conceived as an endurance test for the automobile and driver, first running in 1911. It grew to be an event which had multiple starting points all over Europe. The 2012 Monte-Carlo historic rally had start points in Barcelona, Glasgow, Oslo, Reims, Torino and Warsaw. The concentration runs met in Monaco and then all the competitors ran roads in the area including the famous Col de Turini.
Our Mini Monte is just for fun. We start in two places in southern Ontario, meeting at a common point in the middle of the event and finishing on a common route.
There is a little break at the mid-point where you can get refreshments and use the washroom. The finish is at the Pinehurst Lake Conservation Area where we’re having a BBQ.
The event registration is $30 per team, which includes entry to the Conservation Area and BBQ dinner.
What do I need to know to do a rally?

Rally Must-Haves:

Pens or pencils
A watch or clock that displays seconds

Rally Nice-to-Haves:

Clipboard & paper, or a notebook
Calculator

Since this is a fun event, the instructions are geared to competitors with minimal to no experience. It’s suitable for families, so bring the kids!
And no, you do not need a firesuit or helmet for navigational rally.
If you have some rally experience, come along anyway: it will be a good time and a great opportunity to introduce your family or friends to rally.
Each start location will have a brief beginner’s session to teach you the basics of navigational rally.

Want to be a pro from the start? Try Rally School!

The 2014 Navigational Rally School will be held in conjunction with the Mini Monte Rally. The school will be a 3 or 4 hour morning session before the Mini Monte start. Location is the Caledon Village Place Community Centre in Caledon Village (Hwy 10 and Charleston Sd. Rd.).
RALLY 101 will give you all the navigational tools needed to compete in an entry level road rally, and is an excellent first step on the road to Targa Newfoundland or performance rallies. The course is based on “doing” rather than lectures, so come prepared to work. Bring pencils, pens, highlighters, calculators.
You will be introduced to rally basics including safety, legal, rally rules, regulations and customs, basic instruction types and timing; as well as what to expect when you go to an event and what equipment you should have.
Then it’s right into the 2nd annual Mini Monte Rally, right from the registration procedure to running the complete rally. You will use the skills learned in the morning to complete the route: what to do at a checkpoint, how to communicate in the car and basic timing
Start time: 8:30 AM
Location: Caledon Village Place Community Centre in the Village of Caledon [Map]
Cost: $50 per team including the Mini Monte rally
Registration: The Mini Monte | Ontario`s Monte Carlo Style Car Rally
The event ends with a BBQ hosted by KWRC and an awards ceremony!

At the BBQ we will have burgers and hot dogs, soft drinks and water. You can bring things like salads or desserts to share, but it’s not required.
You should bring lawn chairs, since picnic table space will be at a premium. Pinehurst has a nice beach for swimming and canoe rentals if you are so inclined.
