    2020 Advanced Driving Clinic - POSTPONED
    Presented by SPDA, Toyo Tires, and JRP

    Covid-19 has taken it's grip globally and the responsibility to flatten the curve lies in all of us and what we do. In light of the current global environment, SPDA-Online.ca is doing our bit to encourage "Social Distancing" by postponing the Advanced Driving Clinic to a later date.

    Registration will NOT open on April, a new date will be announced following the flattening of the Covid-19 curve.

    Event Date and Cost

    Dates: April 25th and 26th
    Location: CAA Centre in Brampton, ON

    UPDATE: Registration for ADC will now be on-line only due to the COVID-19 situation for social distancing. Link to be provided here and on Facebook page on the SPDA group page.

    It usually sells out in less than 30 minutes. Be ready to secure your place in line!!
    Please be on site to register, we take Cash, Cheques, EMT and Paypal on site.
    $90 for Day 1 / $70 for Day 2, or $140 for both days.

    About SPDA Advanced Driving Clinic[/B]

    SPDA continues its tradition of offering first class instruction with a focus on lots of "Hands On" training for a value price. This event is open to all cars with instruction provided by qualified instructors. In car instruction will provide the students with narrative, and positive reinforcement in how to properly negotiate the exercises. The 2 day event is intended to be informative and fun, with focus on "FUN".

    • All drivers must be Legally Licensed in Canada with a valid driver’s license
    • Automobiles must belong to the driver or must have a consent form from the owner to be used for this type of event

    Day 1 Agenda

    Advanced Driver Training - Phase 1
    (9:00 – 3:30)

    The first day focuses on assisting the driver to get better acquainted with their cars. The exercises being instructed throughout the day will instill confidence in the student and teach the driver about how to exploit the limits of their cars in a safe controlled environment. Drivers will learn the limits of their daily driver through exercises specifically designed to get the driver and vehicle better acquainted with each other:

    • General overview of principals that will be thought throughout the day

    (In Car Instruction)

    • Seating Position
    • Feet Position
    • Hand Position
    • Skidpad: Instruct the student to recognize “Understeer” and “Oversteer”
    • Figure 8’s: Weight Transfer, Braking Points, Controlled Entry and Exit
    • Threshold Braking, Braking with ABS
    • Parallel Slaloms: Transitions
    • Mock Autocross Course: Reward at the end of the day

    Day 2 Agenda

    Advanced Driver Training – Phase 2
    (9:00 - 4:00)

    Pre-Requisite for Day 2:
    • Drivers must have had the basic instruction similar to Day 1
    • must have participated in other autoslalom schools, or club series competitive autoslaloms

    Day 2 focuses on increasing the driver confidence through setup techniques. In addition to the lessons learned in Day 1, this day focuses on higher speed ingress and egress techniques. Day 2 focuses on putting to practice all the items learned on Day 1, and will teach the student to look farther ahead, and to plan their course.

    Theory Discussion: Q&A about setup truths vs fiction
    Course Walk: Teaches the newcomer on how to read the layout of the track
    Tire Pressures: Effect of Tire Pressures on driving dynamics
    Emergency Lane Change
    In Car Instruction: Instructors Provided if required
    Autocross Instruction the entire day
    Timing equipment will be on the premises but the event will not be formally timed

    Requirements for the clinic:

    • Water
    • Appropriate Clothing - this event occurs outdoors
    • Umbrella (Rain or Shine)
    • Closed Shoes - No Sandals or heels
    • Food for Lunch - Lots of places to eat nearby
    • Driver’s License
    • Automobile Registration
    • Positive Mental Attitude - Ready to have the best time of your life with your clothes on

    2019 SPDA Car Club Annual General Meeting – Minutes

    The Annual General Meeting for the SPDA car club (spda-online.ca) was held on Saturday January 25, 2020 at Vaughan Dave & Busters.
    Regular presiding officers were present, Joe T – President, Steve D - VP, Ivano D – Treasurer, Laszlo T - Secretary, plus Melanie L - Social Director, Trevor H - Co Founder and many of the ambassadors with a special guest presenter - Christian Perera of BizTax (virtu-local tax and accounting).

    Previous meeting minutes were approved by Joe T and seconded by Ivano D


    • A memorial tribute to the late Todd Freer (former competitor, motorsports ambassador and all around nice guy who) from the Club Prez, Joe T
    • Brief reports from Committees
    • Update on motorsport governance in Canada, since ASN announced closing of their operations
    • BixTax presentation
    • Elections
    • Toyo tire draw prizes for members plus recognition award (5 sets)

    – Trevor H (Rally Ambassador) presenting

    • Nav Rally; SPDA not hosting No Winter Maintenance (NWMR) in 2020
    • Lanark Highland Forest (performance) rally hosted by SPDA through their partner organization (Ottawa Sports Car club) was very successful, with 22 entries - one of the highest participants of the 2019 series
    • Invitation to Rally Sprint for any interested competitors. Sprint is a less complicated and less expensive way to get involved in performance Rally. Trevor H extended a warm invitation to answer questions for anyone who’s interested or considering getting involved.
    • Another big SPDA contingent helped out at the series- and season-ending Tall Pines Rally; Nick H, Arek T, Steve D, Opal G, Trevor H, Laszlo T, etc.
    • Steve D and Opal G came in 4th place overall in the toughest Expert class in Nav Rally, with two 1st place finishes

    Motorsport Governance in Canada
    - Steve D (Time Attack director)

    • ASN Canada - the motorsports authority in Canada representing FIA - ceased operations.
    • Affiliated motorsports clubs stepped in to maintain insurance and temporarily ensure motorsports activities go on as usual while a new Canadian governance organization is established

    Time Attack
    – Dov A (Time Attack ambassador) presenting

    • New MyLaps timing system introduction was a significant organization improvement for the OTA series (uses an integrated track loop instead of the timing van apparatus). Many thanks to Kevin W (yellow S2000 w/license plate Lemon Jus) for his efforts leading the timing system transition
    • BIG thanks to Will P as well, for developing the software part of the MyLaps timing system, with its instant online access. Will is to briefly present the value and importance of the timing system change at the next AGM (Jan 2021)
    • Some changes to OTA event dates; Shannonville weekend is Jun 20 & 21, July 11 is the Mosport GP track, and the season will be concluded with an end of season event and BBQ at TMP (formerly Cayuga)

    • SPDA held fewer track days in 2019, but there will be 4 in 2020
    • CTMP (formerly Mosport) track costs are increasing and it will likely increase event costs
    • Toyo has extended their sponsorship for another year - through 2020 - which is awesome. They’ve been a great long-time sponsor and have excellent motorsport tires
    • Track dates have been set; Jun 6, Aug 8 and Sept 19 at DDT, plus NV Auto’s July event
    • Advanced Drivers Clinic date is Apr 25/26 at the Brampton CAA (formerly Powerade) Centre

    AutoSlalom Update
    - Daniel F update (in absentee)

    • Securing suitable venues continues to be a challenge for the series Picton Airfield as a future venue uncertain given ownership change but looking good for 2020, although both WOSCA and OMSC are looking for new venues A few new venues; St. Thomas Airport for Jun events, the oval on Kawartha Speedway in Aug, and the Jun event at CTMP had triple the number of competitors as last year’s in Sept
    • The 2019 CASC Regional Autoslalom Champion is Ujjwal Verma in his G Street VW GTI Rabbit. He clinched the overall championship at the 7 th event. Congratulations to Ujjwal!
    • Looking ahead to 2020, there will be no significant changes for next season. Expect 8 events instead of 9.
    • The $35 ($40 after the series open house in April) series registration fee will continue to earn you the $10 discount on fees, reserved series number, scoring in the series championship and a series t-shirt.

    • Best customers are small forward-thinking organizations (1 - 20 people) like startups
    • Onboarding new customers can be as fast as 72 hours
    • Ongoing guidance is part of their service, like “any expense should not be a cash expense. Cash income is allowed, but cash expenses without a receipt are not allowed by CRA”

    • 4 sets of Toyo R-Comp or street tyres awarded to members present; Evan G, Ujjiwal V, Arek T and Mike Aversa (who can always use more tires for racing)
