The all-new Subaru WRX is coming. Pardon our dust.
I bought that car...picked it up late 2001 then when the STi came out, I bought that as well and picked that up in July 2003! I still remember when I went to the dealer to pick it up, I was so intimidated by it, the Gold wheels, the WRB colour, the I just bought a $47k car, the holy sh%t I'm cool! I miss it, I miss all of the Subaru's I've had

nitro,
The price surprised me too. I paid 39 $k for the '09 STi, and the '04 WRX was at least that much. So the newer versions are more capable and less expensive, but this auto is still loads of fun!
Less power although lighter [by 300lbs] than my STi, with more window area in what feels like a more compact package. It's still got loads of charm!

the dollar was in the crapper then.... still remember my friend's 02wrx / bought in March 2001. One of the 1st ones here in Ottawa. His price was 43k with taxes. you can get a base 13sti for cheaper out the door!

faster straight line / take a lot more tire, but softer and more fragile. that's what i'd say on the newer cars.
Yes I agree, the 04-05 are more raw than the newer versions, more of I'm in control and not the electronics imo
